Are Fossil Fuels Greening the Earth?

A Reason.tv video featuring Matt Ridley:

The video clocks in at just short of 20 minutes, which might be a little bit too long for some of you, but it’s worth the watch if you’re interested. Matt Ridley presents evidence collected from satellites that demonstrate that, as a whole, the earth is physically getting greener. The “greening” of the planet is due in part to increased rainfall from a slightly warmer climate, and in part due to fossil fuels, as the burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the air. Increasing carbon dioxide concentrations have helped plant growth, as plants need carbon dioxide to grow.

As Matt Ridley notes, this certainly isn’t welcoming news for many in the environmental movement.
